Launch of ASCN Activities in Armenia
On February 25, 2011, from 10:00 to 13:00, the Academic Swiss Caucasus Net (ASCN) held its first workshop in Yerevan, Armenia. The workshop was hosted by the Caucasus Institute and conducted by the head of ASCN Professor Nicolas Hayoz, ASCN scientific coordinator Denis Dafflon, and local ASCN coordinator in Armenia Dr. Sergey Minasyan. Workshop participants represented the scholarly community of Armenia in the field of social sciences, including heads and staff of university departments, think tanks and research institutes affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences.
The speakers presented the goals and planned activities of the Academic Swiss Caucasus Net in Armenia, and the main findings of an assessment of research capacities in Armenia in social sciences and humanities conducted by the Caucasus Institute on behalf of ASCN. Together with ASCN representatives, local stakeholders discussed and identified umbrella topics for the forthcoming ASCN call for research projects in Armenia.
